Scope:
The main scope of this service is the determination of the optimal AM strategy and parameters to attain a good balance between quality, cost and productivity, and the assessment of the technical and economic feasibility of the AM manufacturing of the target part. This is a consultancy service and it is not intended to develop the process at an industrial stage, but to evaluate the feasibility of a given application.
The service may involve the use of AM manufacturing equipment of the service provider, or may use parts produced by the requesting company in their own equipment under the advise and guidance of the PULSATE partner. Quality analysis, NDT and specific testing can be provided by PULSATE to assess the quality and validity of the manufactured parts in terms of functionality, porosity and presence of geometrical or material defects.
The requesting company must detail the target materials, requirements and geometry, as well as the in-house AM capabilities if they exist; based on that information, an experimental plan will be agreed, including the functional tests. The phases of the study can include:
- Problem Analysis
- Experimental plan
- Simplified tests in a relevant geometry
- Quality assessment, testing, results analysis.
- Report creation and delivery, with indications of proposed next steps for process development or upscaling.
The extent of the work is expected to span for 2-4 weeks of engineering and experimental work, plus the additional work for briefing and reporting.
