Scope:

Department of Laser Technologies (FTMC) offers a variety of laser microprocessing solutions. Businesses willing to develop the laser-based process in their production may use this infrastructure for a test-before-invest approach. As a result, clients can test laser technologies avoiding costly investments for initial trials.

Approach:

The initial test for laser technology assessment for proposed materials. Variety of laser parameters to tailor the specific production process:

• Nanosecond, picosecond, femtosecond and CO2 lasers.

• Wavelengths from 10 um (CO2) to 1064 nm, 532 nm, 355 nm, or 266 nm.

• Various beam positioning and focusing options as well as sample positioning, rotating or 3D surface microprocessing.

• Different laser processes: cutting, drilling, milling, surface modification, laser induces selective metallization, and marking.

FTMC has vast experience in laser microprocessing different materials: glasses, metals, dielectrics, semiconductors, solar cells, ceramics, and sapphire, utilizing ultrashort pulse lasers.

Furthermore, the results of the laser process can be inspected using various characterization methods:

Optical and scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, stylus and optical profilers, and optical spectrometers. Surface wetting and electrical properties also can be measured.

Outcome:

A report of laser-based process solutions for the customer's materials, which evaluates the optimal parameters and scaling opportunities.

Production of small test batches.
